Riverland, known to the locals as the “Coconut Grove of Fort Lauderdale”, was formerly Unincorporated Broward County and was annexed into the City of Fort Lauderdale in 2002.
Tucked-away in a hidden part of Fort Lauderdale (just south west of Davie Blvd and I-95) Riverland has preserved the timeless ‘Old Florida’ lifestyle where the land is filled with natural wildlife, natural woodlands, dense foliage and canals where boaters can dock their own boat right from their homes.
Recently, Riverland and its residents were able to save a 5-acre piece of natural woodland from turning into a new development of 14 two-story homes that would have required the destruction of about 500 trees and various wildlife including endangered species. The land is now planned for a park that would preserve the land, for the most part, in its natural state.
