I decided to visit the newly renovated South Side School, one of Fort Lauderdale’s first elementary schools in Broward County. Originally built in 1922, this historical landmark was saved from becoming a lost part of South Florida history.
The organization, Friends of South Side, is a non-profit organization that was formed in 2004 for the purpose of preserving from demolition and removal from public ownership. Their purpose is to promote the re-establishment and operation of the South Side School site as an historic, educational and social center, highlighting and providing a public forum for the cultural arts for the community (as stated on their website).
Come 2018, South Side School has evolved as Fort Lauderdale’s cultural arts center, offering educational classes in the Culinary Arts, Visual Arts, Dance, Performing Arts & Fitness. And if you know me, these classes are everything that I love and definitely looking forward to take their culinary classes, dance and maybe even an art class to find my inner Picasso 🎨
